Acupuncture is a safe, pain-free technique that is often used in combination with chiropractic care. Acupuncture stimulates points in the body with tiny hair-thin needles to correct the body's energy flow. Illness or pain occur when the flow of energy is blocked or out of balance, as taught through the ancient theories of acupuncture. Acupuncture will "unblock" this flow of energy to allow the body to heal itself.
Traditional acupuncture therapy involves needles. The needles may be used alone, or they may be used in combination with electrical therapy. Acupuncture with electrical therapy uses tiny electric impulses transmitted through the acupuncture needle to stimulate the points in the body.
There are also other forms of acupuncture treatments that do not involve needles. Electrical acupuncture treatment uses tiny electrical pulsations to stimulate acupuncture points in the body. These tiny electrical pulsations are transmitted through a device applied directly to the skin. This form of treatment is painless, although you may feel a small vibration or electrical pulse. This form of acupuncture treatment is also highly effective and produces no discomfort.
Dr. Motamed practices both needle acupuncture and electrical acupuncture, and will recommend the procedure he feels most appropriate for your condition.
